Broadcast HAHA Sound
After a three year absence, Broadcast are back. Their new album HAHA Sound
was released to much acclaim in August, preceded by the Pendulum EP in
May. This is their first new material since The Noise Made By People in
2000 and judging by the response (see some of the reviews below), it is
their best-loved work so far. This warpmail rounds up all the information
and activity surrounding Broadcast in 2003.
Biography: read an excellent short piece by St Etiennes Bob Stanley about
the band and the new album here:

Some choice reactions to HAHA Sound:
"(Broadcast) mess with preconceptions by embellishing sweet pop melodies
with subtly executed electronic freakery
A delicate treat, and a potent
tonic" The Daily Telegraph
"It works beautifully
a vocalist who humanises the experiment: still, true,
emotionally constant" The Wire
"There isnt space to do them justice
Like Birminghams answer to Françoise
Hardy" 5/5 Hot Stars
"Beautifully odd, as any band would be to unite Courtney Love, Bert Jansch
and Radiohead in awe" GQ
"Why settle for anything less than the best? HaHa Sound is a Mona Lisa of an
album" 8/10 Vice Magazine
"Can a passion for obscure Morricone soundtracks, European art-house cinema
and junk shop electronics really be channelled into great pop? Drop your
avant-guard, for there are few places better to while away an hour than with
a Broadcast album" Word Magazine
"the band apply sonic colour to pop basics in a way that transcends pop and
experimental music" The Independent
